Monte Faito

From the cable car station, walk along the crest of the mountain. 
From the top of Monte Faito, you can see the Vesuvius towering over the Sarno plain.

Leaving the crest, the route heads into the centuries-old beech forest.

Enveloped in an atmosphere suspended in time, we continue towards the Neviere area, where tall beech trees surround special pits. 
These are natural pits where, in the not too distant past, the snow that fell in winter was packed away so that it would be well preserved in the coolness of the beech trees.
The snow was cut into blocks and transported to the valley during warm periods.

The snow packing business came to an end at the beginning of the 20th century, but the beech trees still bear the signs of it today.
