Vesuvius
The Great Cone
It is the most famous volcano in the world and towers over one of the most fascinating gulfs, that of Naples.
The route starts at an altitude of 1,000 metres and reaches 1175 metres.
There are several hairpin bends from which the view is spectacular, but the highlight is observing the previous lava streams up close.
On the way up, you can admire the ancient volcano, Monte Somma, separated from the Vesuvius by the Valle del Gigante.
We walk along the crater belt until we reach La Capannuccia; then the descent begins.
